Coach Micahnik led the University of Pennsylvania fencing program to winning records in each of his 35 seasons. The 2009 Men's Team had an undefeated season, winning the Ivy League Championship and the Intercollegiate Fencing Association Championship. The Men and Women won the 2009 overall IFA Championship.

The 1997 U.S. Fencing Coaches Association Collegiate Coach of the Year, Coach Micahnik led the Quakers to 22 Ivy League titles and a pair of national championships. He also led the men to runner-up finishes on three occasions. Micahnik has produced numerous All-Americans and All-Ivy League selections during his tenure. In addition, Coach Micahnik has coached numerous members of USA international teams, including the Olympics, Pan-American Games, World Championships, World University Games, World Junior Championships, and World Maccabiah Games.

A 1959 Penn graduate, Micahnik was a first-team All-Ivy selection in epee as a senior, the 1960 U.S. National Champion and a competitor in three Olympic games. Micahnik has been coach of U.S. teams in four Under-20 World Championships, five World University Games, two World Championships, the 1985 and 1993 World Maccabiah Games and the 1986 and 1988 Junior Pan Am Games.

Coach Micahnik was the founder and director of the Junior Fencing Camp at Penn for 28 years and has been Program Director for the Drew Camp since its inception.

He is a member of both the United States Fencing Hall of Fame and the University of Pennsylvania Athletic Hall of Fame.

Fencing Camp at Drew is open to any and all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade level, and/or gender.
